307 has a Main Event…

Just Announced! Alex Pereira will defend his Light Heavyweight title in Salt Lake City against the number eight contender Khalil Rountree Junior…The number eight contender. There’s a serious issue with the rankings and match making currently. I understand the fight game is about putting on the biggest events possible, so I don’t understand why they pretend to have some sort of order to it. In boxing you rarely see this order being followed, so It doesn’t make any sense why the UFC (an alternative to boxing) tries to act like it does. It becomes clearer when you realize the rankings aren’t decided by the UFC nor the matchmakers themselves, put instead the press…“Whatever that means” (some fat guy in a basement). Look, I think this will be an entertaining fight, someone will get knocked out…(Khalil Rountree) so I can’t be mad about that. I just think there needs to be some clarity on whether or not the rankings matter. It must be even more confusing for the fighters who think they’ve earned a title shot or top contendership only to lose out to a guy ranked five spots below you. I just have to laugh when MMA fans call professional wrestling fake or lame when the UFC is essential morphing into WWE. Ever since the rise of McGregor, every fighter has to be a trash talker or no one watches their fights. You gotta be smooth on the mic and cut the coolest promos “You dig”. Now there needs to be drama outside of the cage to sell a fight and in order to succeed in this company you need to impress the guy who runs the company, kiss the brass ring so to speak…reminds me a lot of…Did I mention they’re owned by the same people now?

Overall, this card has some exciting fights…other than the co-main. I’m Interested to see how Buckley v. Wonderboy plays out, will Wonderboy’s Karate be too much for the meathead that is Joaquin Buckley? Next, Jose Aldo continues his return to the title picture as he is set to square off with Mario Bautista. Unless Bautista can take down Aldo, I don’t see him being much of a problem on the feet for the “King of Rio”. Lastly, we have Aljamain Sterling taking on Movsar Evloev in a fight that’s sure to make most fans in the arena get up to piss. Between that and the Co-Main these fans are gonna be getting up from there seats a lot…and it won’t be from the excitement of the fights. I personally could see this being a high level grappling fight that could have some quality scrambles, but most likely it will be Evloev taking down the smaller Aljamain with relative ease and controlling him for majority of the fight. So we shall see…will UFC 307 prove to be a fun one…or prove that the UFC is slowly coming apart at the hinges…Only Hunter Campbell will know.
